Such a great story - The Gates of Dawn

I’ve just finished reading this novel (husband read it straight after me!). Several themes of time woven together really well. The characters really come to life on the pages and the twists and turns make this a ‘can’t put down book’. Great read and would make a brilliant film. So well researched. Fabulous!

Absorbing & gripping!

A fantastic debut novel from Michael J Gowers! The book had me hooked from start to finish!
I was fully absorbed in the different timelines and characters. The way in which the plot builds is fast paced and gripping. From the excellent descriptions of the locations, the author cleverly builds atmosphere and suspense throughout the book. There were a number of “I did not see that coming” moments that make this a real page turner. This book is very well researched and is a compelling read, highly recommended.

A fabulously thrilling story

Outstanding scene setting, three timelines cleverly interwoven and short chapters make for a compelling and surprisingly straightforward read. Not only did I get to learn about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and their amazing works of art, I was also entertained by a fabulously thrilling story which gathers pace and excitement with a startling twist at the end. The descriptive writing shows a wonderful attention to detail, immersing the reader. You really do feel like you are there. It is hard to put down.

A stellar first novel from Michael J Gowers

A great pacey story with some excellent twists and turns. As an art novice it has opened the door to a series of paintings I knew nothing of, and which I thoroughly enjoyed learning about through the book.

A great read. I would thoroughly recommend this book

I really enjoyed this book. I found the book both interesting and enjoyable from learning about the Pre-Raphaelite artists and their works of art combined with a thoroughly enjoyable storyline. The content of the book must have been very well researched by the author and has left me with the desire to visit some of the sites in the UK where such artwork is currently held. I would recommend this book to all. An enjoyable read.

A riveting read!

A thoroughly absorbing novel, which sets the scene creatively and with real attention to detail. The story simmers and evolves nicely, developing the characters in a manner that you can picture them in your mind throughout the book. Never a dull moment and it gathers pace progressively along the way and builds to a tense and exciting finale that would make a good basis for a film. Definitely recommended reading!
